It needs a little elbow grease, this misbegotten mashup of a Hermes and a harp, this typer with a schnozz, this thing of wonder, this Sholes Visible. It's not dead -- we have carriage tension -- but it's in Intensive Care.
I'll be posting more pictures as I gradually go about restoring it.
It was on the 'Bay, and sold for less than four figures, which was surprisingly low for one of these machines. Recently a few of them seem to have been coming out of the woodwork.
Simply amazing. A huge congratulations to you, good sir. Although a little worn (yes, a LITTLE), she is quite a beauty and I cannot wait to see how it turns out once you have worked your magic. I, like everyone else, will be expecting a typecast from this beastie as soon as it has a pulse. Congratulations again!
Congratulations! You have one big project ahead of you. The typewriter looks like a very interesting one. I have never seen one before. Best of everything on its restoration. I can hardly wait to see the result.
What a fantastic design! What year is it? Pre-XX-century?
I love the industrial look of its design, with the exposed gears and mechanisms... I agree with everyone, I'd love to see more as you restore it! Congratulations on the find!
Wow. Where the hell did you find this... misbegotten mashup of a Hermes and a harp??? DId it cost you an arm and a leg?
ReplyDeleteMy gut feel is that the operation will be a success.

ReplyDeleteIt´s a beautiful machine and very rare (I never seen one like this). When you finish the restoration I know it will looks great
ReplyDeleteJust a light dust and it will be as right as rain. Actually, was it stuck in the rain? Pretty cool, none-the-less!
ReplyDeleteThat beast is amazing! I'm glad you know what you are doing. I would take one look at this on a workbench and cry like a little chimp.

It is 20th century, barely -- it seems to have been introduced in 1901.

I hope to see video of this one in action, it looks really cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks. If I get it working properly, I promise to shoot some video. I think I can do it, but it's going to take plenty of time.
DeleteWauw, a very special machine; congratulations! And yes, please, once you've blown the dust away, make a video of how it works!
