That's pretty cool. I've been geocaching since 2004-ish. I'll have to ask you in email where you were so I can look up the cache. They often have a theme, and if it's in a mailbox it may be a Letterbox hybrid. Were there any stamps in the logbook?
I think there were just initials in the logbook. There were miscellaneous plastic toys and such which I didn't dig out of the jar. I figured I didn't know what I was doing and didn't want to interfere.
"singular, unrepresented, bound to a particular piece of matter." -- Yes! Revelatory in light of your prior post on typecasting.
You found a reliquary inside the mailbox. How great! A private world. BTW: Is that a brass plaque on the front of the bench? Care to share what it says?
I actually have never heard of geocaching until this moment. That bench looks like a nice, peaceful place to sit down and tap out some words. I should type outside once in a while, but I never ever do.
what an interesting find, and great pictures. i could see myself very much at peace sitting and typing there.

Rob
It says that this is the McGinnis Bench, and lists the names of some McGinnis family members.
DeleteIntriguing! It must have been really an enjoyable experience to leave a note for a non-typoshpherian perhaps to find in the book.
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent place to type! Looks very inspiring. "It was a sunny day at the beach..."
ReplyDeleteThat's really nice, almost like a scene from a movie.
ReplyDeletelooks like the area around San Simeon.....??
ReplyDeletesimilar boxes are found on top of mountain peaks I've climbed. However, never with a typewriter on hand!
Never had the stones to go on a geocaching adventure. Still, the idea of finding some hidden gem is an intriguing one!

Best movie geocache - One of the last scenes in The Shawshank Redemption. A drystone wall in a place referred to as Buxton, I think.
