    1. Both. The plot and personalities are absurd and convoluted, which could describe both the typical Pynchon and the typical pulp detective story. It's fun!

  5. The rumor is that Pynchon wrote Gravity's Rainbow by hand on graph paper. I wonder if there is any truth to that.
