Very nice machine! Is it an Olympia? Which model?
It's just marked "Olympia," but I believe it's properly an Olympia SF. (Schreibmaschine Flach = flat typewriter)

Neat, an Olympia and mention of Olivetti.Have a great time in California.
and how's the book? Living up to Pynchon's rep or just a pulp?
Both. The plot and personalities are absurd and convoluted, which could describe both the typical Pynchon and the typical pulp detective story. It's fun!
it was hot here today!
Happy typing!
The rumor is that Pynchon wrote Gravity's Rainbow by hand on graph paper. I wonder if there is any truth to that.
