  1. My guess is 2 Remingtons. But which ones?

  2. I guessing you did the typecast from one of the old Remingtons, bought those and the very old one I do not recognize. Waynesville looks like a nice place to visit, and they have typewriters too.

  3. Ok, I'm gonna differ from the crowd and guess you got one Remington Portable (the #5 maybe?) and the Brother, because it's a heck of a laptyper. (:

  4. Nice little town! It looks like the perfect spot to have a Sunday drive in the old Ford Model A. I'm liking it alredy!

As for the typewriters... that's a big and modern-ish font, so I'm guessing Brother. And personal preference makes me think you'd choose a Remington, perhaps a Portable 2..,

    1. That "7" is off a Remmie, or I'll eat a hat! :D

  5. I guess the Brother and the Remington #5 (because you mentioned the discount on both machines).

  6. Ted and schrijfmachine are correct. The Remington 5 (sans paper table decal for some reason) and the Brother were the best deals.

  7. Am I wrong in thinking that that apparent Rem 5 is actually a Streamliner?

    1. Very good! Yes, I checked the serial and it is a 1942 Streamliner. No decal at all on the paper table. Yet another variant for the history books.

    2. The return lever and metal keys were the big tells for me.

  8. Since you bought the Brother, can you answer a question for me about its carriage return lever? Is there a tiny ball bearing between the bracket and the lever itself, so that it will snap down but also stay up when lifted? On my daughter's, the return lever flops down and has to be lifted in order for the carriage to move to the right, and I think it needs a tiny ball bearing in order to let it move to the raised position and stay there.

  9. Yes, that's exactly right. I repaired this problem once by using a spare ball bearing.
