This is a beautiful concept indeed...I mean it looks great. Kudos!
Better, tho, to find the encoder chip for the AlphaSmart keyboard and look at what type of signal is produced by each keystroke and then fit the Kolibri with sensors and circuitry to mimic this and feed that to the encoder chip instead...rather than to drive the pads directly. You've inspired me...maybe I'll give it a go someday. Very nice!
wow - a good hybrid would certainly be worth its weight in metal and circuitry!
