This is Krylon glossy cherry red. It comes out fast, so I had a few problems with runs. General advice with spray paint: to avoid runs, don't get too close to the object and keep moving the can back and forth; pay close attention to the instructions on the can about time between coats (which can vary wildly); apply a white primer first, and finish with a clear coat (which I will be adding soon).
Interesting. I was just wondering how you'd do the painting and here it is. Will the hand-painted areas have the same texture/feel as the sprayed surface?
The answer is: not completely. The hand-painted pieces are going to be less regular than the spray painted ones. If I were a perfectionist, I would disassemble and spray. On this model, though, that seems to be a nightmare of tiny screws, so I thought I'd give my brush-painting skills a workout instead.
I can't wait to see how it looks when you're done!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of paint do you use? I want to be painting one of those 60s SCM portables all black for practice.

ReplyDeleteGood question, I dream lo-tech.
