  2. When I picked up my latest SM9, the seller brought his Torpedo to show off. I typed on it and it was rather awesome. However those linkages are set up, it really accelerates the typeslug with a minimal of pressure. Pretty amazing!

    1. Yeah, they have a great, super-snappy feel to them.

I'm not sure this is related, but they are also loud. Typing on a Torpedo sounds like popcorn popping!

  3. Whoa, purple Torpedo! You did an excellent paint job, it looks original.
So it also sounds like a torpedo. ( :

  4. Excellent job! The rusty Torpedo is now a one-of-a-kind wonderful typewriter.
Thanks for the video. The silver accent around the body really makes the rest of the machine stand out.

  5. ... and also a pretty nifty little rotating display device! A lazy susan for typewriters.

    1. That's just what it is. I keep it on my worktable usually, and it's essential when fixing and cleaning heavy typewriters, so I don't throw out my back!

  7. How about a voice-over next time? Really talk up the benefits of the purple splendour.

  8. I was able to find aniline purple cash register ribbons at my local office supply store. You can then produce purple prose on your purple prose producer.

  10. Pimped to the max! Note to self: must find another donor machine for customising.

  11. Very well done! The Torpedo looks cool, and since the original Torpedo colours were a bit eccentric (silver-blue, corall...), it could easily be original. :)

  12. I assumed the weapons-fire sound of my Torpedos was due to the petrified rubber. I'm sure that's part of it, but interesting that they all sound really loud.
But fast - oh, goodness are they fast.
    Beautiful job, Richard.

    1. Thanks.

I did replace the platen on my other Torpedo, and it did quiet it down a bit -- but it's still one of my louder writing machines.

  14. Awesome, awesome paint jobs. I don't know very much about Torpedos but I must say all the comments about the snappy action gets me very interested very quickly.
