West Virginia bound

(Photo of Pennsboro taken during my visit last year.)

I arrived safely at Herman's. Tonight 16 typewriter collectors, spouses, and relatives went out to dinner together, including Leila and Ken of Swinging Typebars. Tomorrow the intensive typewriter geeking begins.

  1. Those look like my kind of junk stores. It's a shame they were mostly typewriter free.

I hope everyone has a great time! Kinda jealous...

  2. Damn.... I think we've pretty much cleared the floor of typewriters living in the wild still....

    1. I wouldn't draw that conclusion. As best I can recall, I stopped in only three antique/junk shops and I spotted four typewriters, one of which I wanted enough to buy. Not bad.

Can't wait for your updates on your typewriter geeking!

  4. Fantastic entry! Places I've never been but now I can dream them. I envy the adventure. And crave that intrigue of the potential of turning the corner and spotting a holy grail or any rare bird.
Have fun at the meeting. Maybe next year, set up video conference or a massive Skype!

    1. Sometime this PM (Oct. 13, 2012, Eastern time) there is going to be some Skyping with a collector in Washington state. Feel free to try Skyping Herman Price or me, and you might get lucky.

  5. Can't believe no one's mentioned that truck Richard's first photo. Friends, this is how a Real Typospherian travels when s/he's out traversing! I want to pics of its interior when you get back - no doubt STUFFED full of more exotic Poltian Mechanical Wonders.*

    * To hear Ton tell it, the House of Polt is a veritable typewriter wonderland museum!

    1. Ha ha ... sure, I'll be loading up a truck with typers!

Actually, my Fusion came to W. Va. packed with machines which are mostly going to new owners. I need to slim down my collection a bit.

The House of Price is a true wonderland, far exceeding mine.

    2. PS: The Remington Noiseless will surely be moving on to a student, friend, or colleague after I clean and refurbish it.

  6. I love those big old houses. That 's one of the things I miss from living in the North neat old big houses. And yes, W.VA is in the North when one lives in FL. When I lived in VA it was 30 miles to the West.

Have fun at the collector's meeting.
