Words are Winged recognized the sound 11 minutes after I posted it, and x over it got it too. Yes, it is a Remington 10. The twang at the end was an attempt to baffle everyone by tilting the typewriter back and strumming on the long shift assist springs. But it's not so easy to throw a bloodhound off the track.
Now I'd like to know what it is that creates this funny xylophone sound when you type on this model.
I was going to say a Varityper, but I have never heard one. I've just heard about the spring motor winding up every 13th space, so I thought that might have been that strange sound at the end.
The hollowness of the type-bars hitting the platen reminds me of a Remington 10 I had, but that twang at the end stumps me.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of my Remington Monarch...
ReplyDeleteThe original Monarch-based one, that is.
DeleteThis sounds a bit like the springs on a Magic Margin by Royal...
ReplyDeleteNotagain brought his Remington 10 to the Tacoma type-out and it sounded just like that!
ReplyDeleteNEVER underestimate the Typosphere!

ReplyDeleteoh, the track doesn't show. has it been removed?
ReplyDeleteNo. It shows OK for me.
Deletejesus, you are quick to reply. works for me now, and sounds as flat as a remington portable 2. last part performed on a spring?
DeleteNot sure what it is, but I enjoyed hearing it.
ReplyDeletePlease, what is the gorgeous red typewriter on this home page?
ReplyDeleteIt's an Optima Elite that I repainted. I call her The Belle of the Insurgency.
DeleteYou can see what she originally looked like here.
