Thank you for this. I am so glad to know about Sven Birkert's book which, somehow, I had missed. I am at work on a book about traveling through the Trans-Pecos (Far West Texas), struggling with how to articulate how bizarrely, profoundy different the experience is from traveling in the days before the Internet.
