The serial number on my Privat is 223959, and the receipt dates it at 1963.
Here is Will Davis' article on the Voss Privat: page 1, page 2.
Here is my overview of the Patria portable family (ETCetera, March 2010):
Now check out all the amazing paper that came with this machine:
The typing test sentence -- "Festgemauert in der Erden steht die Form aus Lehm gebrannt" -- is the first two lines of "Das Lied von der Glocke" or "The Song of the Bell" by Friedrich Schiller. One translation runs, "Firmly bricked in the earth stands the mold fired from clay." Deutschland, Land der Dichter und Denker und Schreibmaschinen!
Man. That Privat came with every bit of ephemera imaginable! The receipt is definitely the neatest part...aside from the machine, of course. It looks absolutely fantastic.
THANK YOU RICHARD! I have been waiting for this. I am so in love with my Voss DeLuxe but your collection still gives me Voss-envy! And all that printed info. and ephemera that came with it are priceless - l had not been able to find the different Voss typefaces anywhere. Thrilled!
That is a top notch machine and a very cool pile of paper. I recently got my first factory test sheet and I think they are very cool. At any given time I can have the first and most recent pages said machine ever typed right next to each other.
Cool. It sort of reminds me of a Cole Steel but I'm sure the typing action of the Privat is far superior. And I agree, it's got a nice typeface. Where did you find this, Richard?
thnx for the info. I found a similar one this weekend. Not qwerty but azerty, in the box, with manual. I am not a collector so if.......festraetsnatacha@gmail.com (belgium).

ReplyDeleteExcellent article. Well done, Richard!! Lots to learn here.
ReplyDeleteMy father always told me that one loves PEOPLE, not things, but I can't help myself, I really LOVE that typeface!
