Privat showing
The serial number on my Privat is 223959, and the receipt dates it at 1963.
Here is Will Davis' article on the Voss Privat: page 1, page 2.
Here is my overview of the Patria portable family (ETCetera, March 2010):
Now check out all the amazing paper that came with this machine:
The typing test sentence -- "Festgemauert in der Erden steht die Form aus Lehm gebrannt" -- is the first two lines of "Das Lied von der Glocke" or "The Song of the Bell" by Friedrich Schiller. One translation runs, "Firmly bricked in the earth stands the mold fired from clay." Deutschland, Land der Dichter und Denker und Schreibmaschinen!

Man. That Privat came with every bit of ephemera imaginable! The receipt is definitely the neatest part...aside from the machine, of course. It looks absolutely fantastic.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU RICHARD!
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this. I am so in love with my Voss DeLuxe but your collection still gives me Voss-envy!
And all that printed info. and ephemera that came with it are priceless - l had not been able to find the different Voss typefaces anywhere.
Thrilled!
Mrs. Fisher had good taste!
ReplyDeleteThat is a top notch machine and a very cool pile of paper. I recently got my first factory test sheet and I think they are very cool. At any given time I can have the first and most recent pages said machine ever typed right next to each other.
ReplyDeleteAwesome ephemera! The type samples are very helpful as is the list of Voss models.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful typewriter with a fantastic typeface. Great find!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. That is a nice typeface. Nice to have the factory sheet. Not many of those survived.
ReplyDeleteCool. It sort of reminds me of a Cole Steel but I'm sure the typing action of the Privat is far superior. And I agree, it's got a nice typeface. Where did you find this, Richard?
ReplyDeleteIt was on eBay, located in the US, but I don't recall where.
DeleteWow - what a find!
ReplyDeleteoh blast and avast! now I want one, ye scurvy dog! oh, and happy TLAPD!
ReplyDeleteType Like A Poodle Day?
DeleteRichard - yup this one is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHow and where did you get it? id love to hear the story!
It's a boring story: won it on eBay. I don't recall where it was except that it was in the US, possibly Florida.
DeleteMrs Fisher must have been a well-heeled girl about town. That's a lovely looking machine. Voss envy unrequited.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article. Well done, Richard!! Lots to learn here.
ReplyDeleteMy father always told me that one loves PEOPLE, not things, but I can't help myself, I really LOVE that typeface!
ReplyDeletethnx for the info. I found a similar one this weekend. Not qwerty but azerty, in the box, with manual. I am not a collector so if.......festraetsnatacha@gmail.com (belgium).
