Thirty-three for three

By request, here's a photo of the Lettera 33 I picked up at the thrift store for $3. Good-looking for a plastic-bodied machine, especially after I blew out the hairy dust and wiped it down with Pledge. It will go to some deserving person sooner or later. (The Consul 221 pictured here on November 27 now belongs to a student, and the cursive Hermes 3000 from December 11 is going to a colleague. I get a kick out of spreading the typewriter goodness.)

I also recently bought several rare typewriters that will turn up on this blog sooner or later.

  1. Hard to believe you got this for $3! Congratulations!

The Lettera 33 has been on my list for ages but I couldn't find one I could afford. Hope I get to be as lucky as you this year.

  2. What a beautiful machine! I like the finish of the covers; very different from the Olivettis I've seen around here. Do you know how old is it? Where was it made?

  4. I dithered when a few of these came up locally on eBay. They are very slick looking, which may be why they ended up going for more than I was prepared to pay. The one that got away? A pristine ivory coloured Imperial Good Companion Model 5 in a beautiful leather case. I think the hammer went down on £54. Worth everypenny, but when you have already owned one for £10, the price sort of felt a bit steep.

  5. Nice - looks serious and reliable. Also seen as "Olivetti lettera DL". (http://www.flickr.com/photos/shordzi/6201158932/) And closely related to Dora, Ventura, lettera 31 ... Olivetti was not shy in inventing many different presentations for very similar machines.

  6. Looks spacy, yet serious. I like the red points tab, logo and ribbon.

  7. I love mine as well. Not just good looking for a plastic-bodied machine, but very solid-feeling as well (in my opinion). Very nice Olivetti typing action.
    Great find!

  8. There's something about the color scheme that makes it look very professional and sophisticated. The black/silver/red conjugation and the straight lines makes the design look so contemporary. In my opinion, of course :)

  9. Yes, we know them here as the DL, as in DeLuxe. I have a manual for it, if you want it for whichever lucky person receives it.
