I agree with your idea that different typewriters are often suited to different tasks, or even moods. When writing fiction, I tend to brainstorm (or dreamstorm, as you say) and fool around with new ideas and first drafts on one of my Olivettis -- usually either the Lettera 32 or Studio 44. For some reason, these machines seem more "playful." But for more "serious" later drafts, I prefer working on my Olympia SM9. These are highly subjective feelings on my part, of course, but the different "personalities" of the machines seem to exert a peculiar power.
