A Gutenberg moment

  1. I can imagine students more grade conscious than learning just using AI to generate their assignments hoping the teacher or Professor does not use AI to compare the students assignments.

AI is only as 'smart' as the collective programming done by humans. It is interesting though.

  2. Hipsterism a fad? I hope not. I'm currently reading The Vicar of Wakefield in an edition from 1792. And I'm loving every long S. Goldsmith in a modern edition? Sir, you must be joking.

(Believe it or not, I inspired a student last semester to buy a typewriter.)

Many of my colleagues here are jumping up and down and tearing their hair out about ChatGPT. But I also have one who just let it write her syllabus course description for her. I prefer just to ignore it. Wake me when the Singularity happens, I guess.
